Scouting Guide
Ronaldo became the most expensive football transfer in history when he moved to Real Madrid for £80 million back in 2009. It’s easy to see why he commands such a huge fee. Simply put—Ronaldo has got it all.
Whether playing as a winger or an out-and-out striker, his pure athleticism, dribbling skills, tricks and sublime finishing make him one of the deadliest goalscorers in world football.
Most effective playing wide right or left, Ronaldo is also a dead-ball specialist, with heading ability that appears to defy gravity. He is strong, can use either foot and switches with ease from the right flank to the left.
Sir Alex Ferguson sums it up nicely, as he calls Ronaldo: "The complete player."

Where Next?
Ronaldo has two years remaining on his current contract at Real Madrid, and he has stated in the past that he will honour this deal.
However this hasn't stopped a flurry of speculation in the lead-up to the summer transfer window—especially when the 28-year-old admitted last September that he was unhappy at the Bernabeu (BBC Football).
In an article in the Manchester Evening News, he appeared seemingly resistant to inking a new deal at the La Liga side.
Recently, CR7 has been linked with a move back to the Premier League with Manchester United.
However, a buy-out fee of €1 billion may price him out of a move to his former club.
Moneyed Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain have also been linked with the Portuguese international in The Sun
As have Chelsea, whose former manager Jose Mourinho has left Real Madrid and is widely tipped to be returning to the west London club.
Ronaldo’s price tag is likely to keep him out of reach for most suitors and Real Madrid’s next manager, who is yet to be unveiled, could play a huge role in whether he stays or goes.

With the Neymar transfer saga coming to an end, the focus will now shift to Cristiano Ronaldo's fate with Real Madrid. While many believe that he is leaving Spain's capitol, one man believes he will stay put.
Former Madrid star Zinedane Zidane recently told L'Equipe that the Portuguese superstar is not only remaining with the club, but that he is happy.
"Ronaldo is happy at Madrid," said Zidane. "He is very important for the team and will not move to a different club next season."
Ronaldo has been linked with a move to Manchester United. Numerous reports have indicated that he wants to return to Old Trafford and Manchester fans have embraced the return of the prodigal son whole-heartedly. A number of fans have even begun an online campaign known as"Bring Ronaldo Home" that seeks to raise funds that will help buy the forward from Real Madrid.
Aside from Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain has been linked with Ronaldo as a potential destination. According to Caught Offside, "the Parc des Princes side are ready to meet the £100m price-tag placed on the 28 year old Portuguese international and will offer personal terms that are sure to get Ronaldo's attention. The big spending Ligue 1 title holders are ready to hand the former Man United man a deal worth £15m a year AFTER tax, a huge increase on his current salary, an offer that may well be considered by the La Liga star."
Chelsea was also considered another possible home for Ronaldo since Mourinho is expected to make a return to the Stamford Bridge this summer. Ronaldo and Mourinho shared a strong relationship during the manager's tenure at the Santiago Bernabeu. However, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has reportedly denied any chance of this move happening.
Zidane will be the new Sporting director for the club; many have even speculated that he could be the replacement for Jose Mourinho as manager.

Arsenal are said to have promised Wayne Rooney a £200,000-a-week deal if he opts to join them from Manchester United this summer.
Rooney’s future at United is increasingly uncertain after he handed in a transfer request at the end of the season, with the player keen to move on.
Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain have since been linked with the England striker, but Arsenal are reportedly leading the race and are increasingly confident they can do business.
According to reports, the Gunners have promised Rooney he will be their best-paid player ever if he swaps Old Trafford for the Emirates, with a £200,000-a-week, five-year deal on the table.

It would be something of a come-down for Rooney, who currently picks up around £275,000-a-week on his United deal, that has just two years left to run.
But the 27-year-old would relish the idea of being the leading light in the Arsenal team, which is increasingly being shifted towards a focus on British players.
United’s outgoing chief executive David Gill stressed this week that Rooney would not be sold, but the final decision will be down to David Moyes, who could cash in if the price is right.
It is thought it would take a bid of at least £25million to catch United’s attention.

Carlo Ancelotti will offer Wayne Rooney an escape route if he takes over as Real Madrid boss, writes the Sunday People
Rooney will head off on England duty on Sunday with his Manchester United future clouded in doubt.
Any potential peace offering from new Old Trafford boss David Moyes will have to wait.
In the meantime, Real president Florentino Perez is determined to bring in Double-winning Chelsea boss Ancelotti – a big Rooney fan – to succeed Stamford Bridge-bound Jose Mourinho.
Ancelotti’s current employers, Paris Saint-German, are fighting to keep the Italian.
But Perez is determined to get his man – and start rebuilding at the Spanish giants, with a £25million move for Rooney on the cards.
Real do not want to lose United old boy Cristiano Ronaldo, so an exchange deal is not on the agenda.
Rumours of interest in Rooney from PSG, Arsenal and Chelsea have not yet led to concrete moves from those clubs.
Those closest to the England striker maintain his wish is to stay at United – but if he does go, it would ideally be to Real.

Arsenal Transfer Rumours: Potential Wayne Rooney Move Makes Sense for Both Sides

Arsenal Transfer Rumours: Potential Wayne Rooney Move Makes Sense for Both Sides

Arsenal have been looking for the next Emirates star after losing a handful of elite players in the past few years, and their courtship of Wayne Rooney presents a possibility that would work out fantastically for both the club and player.
The Daily Mirror reported the Gunners are "ready to smash the wage structure" for the Manchester United striker who is almost always in the conversation when discussing the Premier League's best players.
The English international has been all over transfer rumours since the arrival of Robin van Persie at Old Trafford, a move that has caused Rooney to fall out of favor as the club's top striker. But this potential move finally fits for both Rooney and the club.
For Arsenal, they can finally fill the void left by Cesc Fabregas, Samir Nasri and, ironically enough, Van Persie. Such attempts to do so with high-potential players have helped, but have not come close to matching the results from past seasons.

It won't be cheap to say the least. Metro reports they've lifted their offer as high as £200,000 per week. But if the Gunners are keen on spending that type of money on anyone, it should be Rooney.
Rooney would be playing with players from all sorts of backgrounds with Arsenal, but it doesn't hurt that up-and-comers Jack Wilshire and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are fellow English international players. In a couple of years, this trio could be powering England to World Cup finals, not to mention EPL titles.
Arsenal did well to notch a top-four finish in the Premier League this season, which earned them another Champions League bid. But the Gunners aren't some average EPL team who would be content with that. They want titles, and they need a player like Rooney who has been there and knows how to lead a club in that direction.
Hi-res-168028595_crop_exact
A move away from Old Trafford has been long coming for the 27-year-old. As reported by BBC Sport, outgoing United manager Alex Ferguson announced Rooney requested a transfer. With the Red Devils facing £370 million in debt according to The Guardian, they could certainly benefit from dumping Rooney's salary.
While it must be nice to play a lesser role and still pick up Premier League titles, Rooney is still in the peak of his career and undoubtedly wants to carry a team on his back and prove why United made a mistake in favoring Van Persie over him.
Arsenal is just the place to do that. It may look like a step down right now, but the Gunners are loaded with talent and certainly heading in the right direction. They just need a leader at the top of their offense to make the next step.
Rooney will have to be convinced a move to Emirates would be more rewarding than traveling to Paris Saint-Germain, who have offered to match his United salary of nearly £300,000 per week according to The Guardian. But Arsenal can offer something thatPSG can'tthe allure of competing in the Premier Leagueand that should be all the Englishman needs.
There's no doubt that Arsenal will spend the money necessary to get their team back to the top. But without a player of Rooney's caliber, they won't be able to court more elite players and develop budding stars to the best of their abilities.
It hasn't yet been reported that Arsenal have matched PSG's offer, but it shouldn't be about the money for Rooney. His legacy should be the biggest motivator, and moving to France isn't the right move for the star to earn his place among England's best players of all time.
Rooney has proven his ability to dominate a league season when he's the primary striker, with two 25-goal seasons in the Premier League. He's just looking for the right place to prove that again, and there's no better fit than Arsenal.

Neymar announces he will make move to Barcelona official on Monday

Neymar announces he will make move to Barcelona official on Monday

The Brazilian forward, seemingly destined to join Barcelona, describes leaving Santos as the 'happiest day of my life'

The soap opera came to an end at 3.30am Sunday morning whenBarcelona announced that they had reached the basis of an agreement with Santos to sign the Brazil forward Neymar.
The fee has not been revealed, nor a contract signed but Neymar will join the Catalan club in the next few days in a deal understood to be worth close to €60m (£51.3m). Barcelona hope to stage a presentation soon after the Spanish league season finishes on 1 June.
That announcement had been proceeded by Neymar writing online: "I am not going to wait until Monday. My family and friends now know my decision. On Monday I will sign with Barcelona."
The 21-year-old had only one year to run on his contract and his signing means that he will not now stay in Brazil until the 2014 World Cup. The timing of the announcement was dictated by the time difference between Spain and Brazil but it is not the first time Barcelona have chosen a curious moment to announce a major signing: Cesc Fábregas's transfer from Arsenal was made official during half-time in a Real Madrid-Barcelona Supercopa final.
Neymar's contractual situation was complex, with a number of interested parties involved: the DIS investment group held 40% of his economic rights while another group, TEISA, held 5% and Santos 55%.
But Santos held 100% of his registration. In the end, Barcelona reportedly agreed to pay Santos and those partners around €28m, plus a further €30m to the player and close to €9m in agents' fees. A down payment of €10m had already been made in January 2011. Neymar will sign a five-year contract on a salary of €7m a season. In total, that means the package is worth more than €100m.
Neymar departed Santos's headquarters declaring it the "happiest day of my life". This is a victory for Barcelona's president, Sandro Rosell, who has been determined to sign Neymar. Rosell, a former Nike Brazil executive who still has significant business interests and contacts in the country, made Neymar his priority. Despite interest from Madrid, whose president Florentino Pérez appeared determined to torpedo the bid, or at least make it more expensive, the decision was clear. Neymar's father said that his son had chosen the club that best suits his style.
Despite the saga and the late involvement of Madrid, this was a deal that seemed destined to end with the player joining Barcelona. The first glimpse of what had been prepared came in January 2011 when Barcelona's accounts included a mysterious €10m payment, "in accordance with [future] agreements worth 40m". That was an agreement that bound the two parties together, stipulating a penalty clause should either side break the deal. The question then was whether they would bring Neymar to Spain this summer or next.
Barcelona's website described Neymar as a creative attacker and goalscorer, a player of fine technique and outstanding style. "He is recognised by many and has been eulogised by Pelé, whose successor he is considered to be," it noted.
The newspaper Marca, which makes no secret of its preference for Madrid, called his partnership with Leo Messi "frightening". Brazil's biggest star will now play alongside Argentina's captain.
Barcelona have certainly become aware of the need for more variety and creativity in attack and Neymar should be capable of fitting into their formation and philosophy. Yet the signing, which feels to some like a matter of presidential prerogative rather than tactical necessity, has provoked significant doubts – not least because Barcelona's priority was a defender.
Others have questioned whether Neymar, who has scored 20 goals in 32 appearance for Brazil, is as good as he appears and if he will adapt sufficiently quickly to the European game.
Then there is the issue of his ability to combine with Messi, around whom Barcelona have built their team. Asked about the signing of the Brazilian, Johan Cruyff, the former Barcelona player and coach, and long a critic of Rosell, said: "Messi and Neymar? Two captains on one boat doesn't work."

Fellaini: 'My destiny is with Everton'

Despite speculation the Belgium international may follow outbound manager David Moyes to Old Trafford, he insists he is happy and committed to the Goodison Park club.
Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini has insisted his "destiny is with Everton" amid rumors linking him with a move to Manchester United.

The Belgium international has been tipped to follow manager David Moyes to Old Trafford in the summer as the Scot aims to make his mark after taking over from the retired Sir Alex Ferguson. But the 25-year-old Fellaini, who scored against the USA Wednesday night, insists he is happy on Merseyside and has committed his future to Everton despite losing the manager who brought him to the club.

"My destiny is with Everton, it’s as simple as that," Fellaini told the Daily Mirror. "After that, you never know what can happen, but we still speak of one of the greatest English clubs."

The Toffees finished sixth in the Premier League this season, ahead of local rivals Liverpool, and Fellaini believes whoever takes over at Goodison Park will inherit a club ready for success.

"The framework and the basics are there," Fellaini said. "It is in this sense that I mean the departure of the coach does not change anything for me. Despite everything he has done for the club, we always have enough quality to continue to shine.

"Honestly, the departure of the coach does not change. He received a good challenge and I understand that he has accepted. But he never told me about his project to take me with him to United. It is only in the press that I read it."

The Santos forward is currently with the national squad as it prepares for next month's FIFA Confederations Cup, but the Brazilian Football Federation has granted him permission to fly to Spain after the clash with Roy Hodgson's side on Sunday evening to complete the formalities of his move.

Firstly, Neymar will undergo a rigorous medical before putting pen to paper on his five-year contract, which has already been agreed along with the 28 milion euro transfer fee. Then, the 21-year-old will be presented at Camp Nou for photos in a Barca kit in an event both fans and the media have been invited to, before he takes part in a press conference.

After the formalities are completed, Neymar will travel back home to re-join the Brazil squad, which also has a friendly against France before the Confederations Cup opener against Japan on June 15.

"I have butterflies in my stomach. This is a dream come true. To play with [Lionel] Messi and other amazing footballers at Barcelona has made me very eager to arrive there," Neymar said after the deal was announced. "It was a tough decision but I decided together with my family. They helped me amazingly. I'm very happy but at the same time I am sad for leaving a team [Santos] I have been with for years. I have to seize the moment."
